Food for thought with Brian Turner..
By Matt Murphy

Yorkshire favourite and regular TV chef Brian Turner tells us why we should savour what our country has to offer.

“As soon as the autumn months are upon us I realise why I am so lucky to live in this wonderful country of ours. The dark nights mean we can settle round a good fire either at home, in the pub or even in a country hotel.

“But what makes this time so good in Great Britain is that there is an abundance of great produce around. For the adventurous there is plenty of game from the countryside, the best beef, delicious lamb and fabulous pork with crackling; all meats make great roasts and, in my mind, even better stews and casseroles.

“Add root vegetables, carrots, turnips, swedes and onions and top with dumplings, crumbles and cobbler mixes. Who would want to eat anywhere else in the world?

“To me that's what makes this Island the best, sitting round the table, the fire blazing, families eating together with a big pot of stew in the middle.

Go on: help yourself, enjoy, sit back and think of Yorkshire.”
