THE award categories have been designed to recognise as broad a range of business success stories as possible

1. The Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Yorkshire has a fantastic reputation for producing and encouraging entrepreneurs. We are looking to celebrate the achievements of an individual who has demonstrated great success and is making their mark within the Reporter Series area.

2. The New Business of the Year

A good measure of a local economy's health is the number of start-up businesses there are within it. This award will go to an organisation started since April 2007 that is achieving its goals through a mixture of hard work, good customer care, first rate planning and a determination to succeed.

3. SME of the Year.

The Small and Medium Enterprise Award will go to a company employing no more than 25 people. The judges will be looking for a business whose reputation belies its size, one which has shown strong growth and sound financial returns. Our winning SME will have an impact in the Reporter Series area to set it apart from its competitors.

4. Larger Business of the Year Award
Employing more than 25 people, the winner here will be celebrating truly exceptional business over the past year. It will be a leader in its field, setting a strong example for others.

5. The Business and the Environment Award

This award recognises organisations, large or small, which have shown commitment to sound environmental practices. It could be that your business is a "green" concern, one which will help protect resources for future generations. Or you may have strong environmentally-friendly policies in your workplace.

6. The Business and the Community Award Sponsored by Barclays

How much have you or your company done to regenerate the local community, to inspire or help those living and working in your local area? This award is designed to reward the company or individual who has struck the best balance between commercial success and a desire to make a difference.

7. The Innovation Award

This award will go an organisation that can show it has a flair for creating new ideas or ways of working that improve the performance of the company.

8. People Make Performance Award

Skilled and competent people are at the very core of commercial success. The winner of this category will be able to show it is committed to getting the best from its staff by putting quality training and development right at the heart of its strategy.

9. Young Business Person of the Year

This award will go to an individual aged 25 or under who has shown a flair for business. Our winner here can come from a business of any size or may have already started his or her own commercial enterprise. We'll be looking for someone who has demonstrated his or her flair in their field of work.

10. Employee of the Year Award.

The winner of this award will be chosen by our readers. We are looking for nominations from employers, colleagues or customers who think someone deserves the award for their efforts. We are looking for an outstanding worker, one who helps colleagues and clients and goes that extra mile. The winner will receive £200 cash.

11.Business Person of the Year

This award will recognise someone who has made a distinct impact either within a company or as an individual within the business world. This might be in financial terms, strategic development, business expansion, or being instrumental in any kind of major achievement.
