Dewsbury's location with easy
access to the motorway network makes it ideal for travelling to work - and it
also benefits from an excellent transport system with regular services by train
and bus to major financial centres.
The new influx of residents has meant local business have also benefited. Dewsbury
has an appealing mix of some of the biggest names on the high street, more than
90 specialist shops and one of the best markets in Yorkshire.
There is indeed something for everyone in this bustling town centre which is easy
to get around with everything in walking distance.
Dewsbury's famous market continues to attract visitors from miles around who are
eager to soak up the atmosphere and pick up a bargain. There are about 360 stalls
in the outdoor complex and the adjoining Victorian Market Hall. Wednesdays and
Saturdays are the main market days while on Fridays you'll find a huge selection
of second-hand goods. There
is plenty of pay-and-display parking available and extensive free customer parking
at the Rishworth Road Retail Park which has a number of supermarkets and stores,
with a new Next store due to open in December. The
town has emerged as a thriving retail centre that's moving with the times. Yet
despite the welcome investment and influx of new business, its unique character
and community spirit has survived. Dewsbury's
nightlife has also enjoyed revival and you'll find some great pubs, restaurants
and cafes serving a wide variety of food from home-cooked English dishes to Indian,
Chinese, Italian and Greek cuisine. Sporting
facilities in Dewsbury are also second-to-none. There are a huge variety of sporting
clubs and fitness classes in the area and the Sports Centre has just undergone
a major £4m refurbishment to provide improved facilities including a new fitness
suite 33m swimming pool and dance studios. |
