Over the past few years the
demand for housing has increased so much so that new housing developments are
springing up all over and houses tend to be snapped almost as soon as they appear
on the market.
But despite this, Mirfield has retained much of its character, with locals who
have a strong sense of community spirit and are proud of their town. The town
centre has also experienced a revival over recent years, thanks to major investment
in new retail outlets and services which have increased the range of goods for
sale and persuaded more people to shop on their own doorstep.
Now a town centre which was once blighted by empty high street properties has
taken on a new lease of life as a centre for everything from designer wear and
wedding services to health and beauty studios to smart furnishings and accessories
for the home. Families
are realising there is no need to travel further afield to find the good and services
they need as Mirfield offers something for everyone in a thriving shopping centre
with everything in easy walking distance of bus stops and convenient car parks.
The town also has an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants which have built
up a reputation across the area for their high quality and great value food, from
home cooked dishes to more exotic fare. Mirfield’s
original prosperity was built on the woollen industry and today the town remains
famous for its textile products manufactured on a much smaller scale. The Calder
and Hebble Navigation, which runs through the town, was a popular route for transporting
goods. Pleasure
boats now cruise up and down the canal which is the perfect place to enjoy tranquil
walks as is the surrounding countryside where picturesque inns will tempt you
in to relax over a drink or a delicious meal before continuing on your way. |
