When
you work at the Yorkshire Weekly Newspaper Group, every day is different. Reporters
are uncovering news stories, advertising reps are consulting with businesses to
create new campaigns and the promotions team are putting together new and exciting
reader offers every day. The teams work hard, and together with the help of other
departments in Wakefield such as photographic, studio, out n about, IT, finance
and others, gain a great sense of achievement when our products are published
and we remain the main provider of news, advertising and services for the Wakefield
area. The result is trusted, well established, award winning products.
Salaries are dependant upon department role and experience. Everyone is entitled to 25 days holiday in addition to the statutory bank holidays. We have a two week induction training course for all staff - starting at the Yorkshire Post building in Leeds, development and coaching then continues at Wakefield with department managers. Advertising field sales reps have a company car and all sales staff have the opportunity to earn monthly monetary bonuses. More importantly it's a fun, relaxed place to work where individuals are recognised for their part in producing award winning newspapers and websites.
We are committed to developing every employee to their maximum potential. Whether as a journalist, a promotions executive or an advertising sales executive, we all need time to learn product knowledge, time to adapt skills to the role and we all need the support and guidance from colleagues and managers. We place a huge emphasis on training and development at the Express and we ensure that all our staff have a clear development path and are given the support and relevant coaching to achieve their career goals.
Examples of career progression can be seen in all our departments from junior reporters becoming news editors to telesales executives becoming advertising managers. We actively encourage career progression and staff here are kept up to date with all the latest opportunities. Most of the managers and directors at YWNG were appointed from positions in the organisation. Where possible we will always seek to promote from within YWNG. "I started working at the Wakefield Express three years ago as a field sales rep and after completing two diplomas and a senior sales program, I am now the senior sales executive on my team. There is a great atmosphere here
and I have some great colleagues" | |||||||||
