THE hugely popluar Wakefield District Sports Awards is in its ninth season and is once again poised to recognise the district's amazing sporting talent.

Over the years we have honoured an incredibly diverse number of local amateur sports stars from junior and open age rugby and football teams to international swimmers, gymnasts and athletes, with a few boxers, weightlifters, squash players and anglers along the way.

All our winners (all based in the Wakefield MDC area) have been nominated by the public, and now it's your chance once again to put forward your favourite local sports stars.

From this week, nomination forms will be available in our offices in Wakefield, Castleford and South Elmsall .

And an exciting new concept to the awards has been introduced this year. Later in the summer you, our readers, will have the chance to vote for your favourite professional sports personality of the year from a specially selected shortlist.
